Grime-friendly beats and battle-ready raps highlight Enter The UltraNet, the debut EP from UltraNet, aka the tandem of FSTZ and Orko Eloheim, via the Rogue Dubs label. Foreboding and classic-break driven riddims highlight tracks that include rhymes about being an “old school OG overdosing on THC,” as tracks best described as “bass cannons” “hack into the holographic material universe to eliminate key targets in the hip-hop propaganda power pyramid.”
The use of such grandiose language to describe this project is apropos as it attempts to meld the personal and the political, the electronic driven modern age and hip-hop’s soul-derived lineage. If unfamiliar with the tandem, the themes covered here are par for the course, as in the case of San Diego-based Orko Eloheim; he has previous releases like 1996’s Avantgarde Talk, 2007 compilation Wardrum Machine Dub and 2014 African Technology among the 40 EPs, albums or compilations he’s released bearing his name. His partner-in-crime and Kansas City-based producer FSTZ is an acclaimed heavy bass producer with cosigns from the likes of pioneering American dubstep names including Joe Nice and 12th Planet. He’s frequently featured on UK radio channels BBC Radio One, Rinse FM, and more. UltraNet are exactly as advertised and in four tracks exceed both the artist and producer’s top-tier expectations.
Outlets including SPIN Magazine are intrigued by what’s to come from FSTZ and Orko Eloheim, and with a stated desire to save a world ravaged by “evil politicians, internet pirates and wack rappers writing rhymes on their iPhones.” Enter The Ultranet, via a bass bin-rattling and Euro-market inspired, yet globally-aimed quartet of songs, ideally achieve their goal.
